Sophia Capo Memorial Scholarship Program

Application acceptance for the 2024 Sophia Capo Memorial Scholarship is now closed.

In Your Shoes, The Sophia Capo Memorial Foundation, annually awards Sophia Capo Memorial Scholarships to students impacted by a congenital heart defect that is in their Senior year of High School pursuing education at an accredited college or trade school post graduation or already pursuing undergraduate college level studies or enrolled in trade school. 

The scholarship is a one-time award of between $250 and $2,000 dollars. Recipients will be selected by our Board of Directors and will determine the cash amount awarded.  Each application is graded by a point system and is reviewed by members of the board.  Recipients are not precluded from applying for any other scholarships.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be considered:

  • Graduating high school senior in 2024

  • Plan to enroll at a post-secondary institution for the upcoming academic year (may be public or private, in or out of the state of Ohio) or plan to enroll in a trade school.  Evidence of intent to attend must be provided.

  • Applicants must have been impacted by and treated for a congenital heart defect.

  • Major or field of study is not a determining factor for the scholarship.

No applicant will be denied on the basis of race, religion, national origin, sex or age. 

Application Process

  • Please complete the required steps within our application and attach required documents:

    • Essay submission responding to questions on the application

    • One letter of recommendation from a teacher, coach, employer, or other non-family member

    • A copy of your high school transcript

  • All application materials must be postmarked or submitted by Friday, March 29, 2024, at 11:59 p.m.

  • Applicants will be sent an email confirming receipt of application from the In Your Shoes - The Sophia Capo Memorial Foundation

  • Scholarship awards will be announced in early May of 2024.

In Your Shoes - The Sophia Capo Memorial Foundation is a non-profit organization serving children and families impacted by congenital heart defects in memory of Sophia Capo.   Sophia Capo is the daughter of Tony and Lauren Capo who passed away from her congenital heart defects (Complete A/V Canal Defect & Coarctation of the Aorta) in 2012.  The purpose of the Sophia Capo Memorial Scholarship is to help further the education of those impacted by congenital heart defects in memory of Sophia by supporting the educational goals of the recipients of this annual scholarship.  The scholarship is funded in part by generous personal donors as well as Round Room Holdings, Inc.
